Problem: How does the mass of the car effect the distance a domino travels?
Hypothesis: I think that the domino will travel farther when a car with larger mass hits it because the mass will hit the domino and gravity will push it farther than if a smaller car hit the domino.
Variables: CV:the ramp IV: weight of the car DV:Distance the domino travels.
Procedure
1. Gather All Materials
2. Weigh the cars.
3. Put Car 1 down the ramp and measure the domino's distance traveled.
4. Record data.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with each car.
6. Record all data.
7. Put all data into a graph.
8. Clean Up.

Materials
- domino
- 4 cars
- a ramp
- tape
- person to drop cars
- weight
Trial 1 | Trial 2 | Trial 3 | Weight ( grams) | Average
car1 | 7 3/4 | 8 1/8 | 7 3/4 | 1 4/5 | 7 7/8 |
car2 | 2 1/2 | 1 1/4 | 2 | 1.15 | 2 1/4 |
car3 | 6 3/8 | 5 1/2 | 5 3/4 | 1 1/4 | 5 7/8 |
car4 | 2 1/3 | 3 3/4 | 2 1/2 | 1.05 | 2 6/7 |
Conclusion: In my hypothesis I predicted that the car with the larger mass will hit the domino with more power and will make the domino travel farther. My hypothesis was correct the car with the larger mass hit the domino with more force and made the domino travel farther.
Proficiency 2 Experiment
Problem: Does the type of ball texture between a rubber bouncy ball, or a golf ball?
Hypothesis: I think that the golf ball will go farther because it is harder and will travel easier than the rubber bouncy ball that will stick to the ground and prevent it from going farther.
Procedure
1. Gather All Materials
2. Roll the bouncy ball
3. Measure its distance traveled in inches with a meter stick.
4. Record data
5. Do the same with the golf ball.
6. After first time doing the roll with both of the balls do it twice more.
7. Put all of the data in table.
8. Transfer data to data table.
9. Clean up.
Materials-
1. Golf ball
2. Bouncy ball
3. Meter stick
4. Person rolling the ball
5. Someone to measure the ball
Variables
CV- The person rolling the ball, the flooring
IV- Ball Texture
DV- Distance traveled
External Variables-
How hard the person rolls it.

Conclusion:
In my hypothesis I predicted that the golf ball would roll farther than the bouncy ball because of the texture of the ball is different. The golf ball has a harder texture and would roll easier than the bouncy ball with a rubber texture that would almost stick to the ground. The golf ball had an average of 20 feet per roll while the bouncy ball had an average of 18.7 feet per roll. If I could do this experiment again I would make it so that it would be the same amount of force throwing the ball so It would be even. Overall the experiment is a success.
Proficiency 3
Problem: Does the mass of the ball effect it's speed and acceleration?
Hypothesis:I predict that the ball with the higher or greater mass will fall faster because I think that the weight of the ball will drop faster from gravity and will fall faster than a ball with less mass.
Materials:
- yellow ball
- red ball
- scale
- meter stick
- timer
- person to drop the balls
- person to star/ stop the stopwatches
Experiment Procedure
1. Gather All Materials
2. Weigh Balls
3.Measure the place you are dropping the ball from ( bookshelf)
4. Drop the yellow ball
5. Record time
6. Repeat steps 4+5 with the red ball
7. Repeat 4-6 2 times and stop
8. Calculate what the start speed and final speed was and what the time was.
9. Use the formula to calculate the speed and acceleration.
10. Record All Data
11. Put all data into a data table and graph
12. Clean Up
Variables
CV- The distance dropped
IV- The time that the ball drops
DV- The force the ball has to drop from the bookshelf
External Variables
- The force the person has dropping the ball
- When the person timing starts and stops the stopwatch
- Wind/ obstacles
Finish Time | Start speed | Final Speed
Red ball | 0.13 | 0.12 | 6.5 | 7 | 11.1 | 12.5
Yellow ball | 0.11 | 0.14 | 7.7 | 8.2 | 14.3 | 20
*** inches per second*** |
Conclusion: In my hypothesis I predicted that the ball with the greater mass will hit the ground faster than the ball with lighter mass my hypothesis was correct the yellow ball hit the ground before the red ball. But the start time was different but overall the yellow ball was faster.
