Does Patriotism Still Matter?

What do you think of when you hear the word patriotism? When I hear that word I think of the war in Iraq.I have a very close connection with patriotism just because all of my family members that have been in the war and I am very close to them, even though some of them died. I still appreciate what those people do and I think that other people should too. Patriotism means to have love and support and to defend one’s country. That means that you need to love your country with every little piece of your heart. One way to devote your love to your country is to celebrate the 4th of July. When my family celebrates the Fourth of July, we usually have fireworks. Fireworks are like bombs exploding and bursting with pride and fury, lighting up the sky like the morning sun just rising over the trees. Everyone around me has their eyes wide open waiting for more with every boom of the fireworks their eyes get wider and wider . This is just one of the ways I express and you can express your appreciation for patriotism. Patriotism is a very important thing but the connection that I have with it is very important too. Most of my family members have been in the war. Right now my cousin, and two of my uncles are in the Middle East war. As I started to get older I found out that the terrorists are trying to kill my family members and I got scared. Right now they are all okay. But my grandpa died in Vietnam and I recognize what he did and how he put his life on the line for his country. The connection in this essay is very important to me and I really hope that other people recognize that. Each person who is serving to protect us should be valued and recognized for what they are doing.
